Code of Ethics
Healing is a sacred relationship between patient and healer, demanding fidelity to the highest values of compassion, patience, humility, integrity, self-awareness, surrender of ego, and community accountability.
As human beings we are nonetheless fallible and so it is important to not simply know of these values but to embody them in daily practice. The core of my ethics are the Four Boddhisattva Vows of the Zen tradition:
Living beings are numberless; I vow to awaken them all.
Delusions are endless; I vow to cut through them all.
The teachings are infinite; I vow to learn them all.
The Buddha way is inconceivable; I vow to embody it.
As a practitioner of the healing arts my commitment is solely to the wellbeing and benefit of my patients. I am mindful and intentional to avoid any conflicts of interest, avoid interpersonal misconduct with patients and their families, and avoid practicing outside of my role as a spiritual counselor and life coach so that I may guide patients to other healthcare professionals whenever necessary.
I also advocate for the decriminalization of nature. Psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana are some of nature's most powerful medicines and I believe should be freely available to those in need. The fact that they are considered illegal in many places does not make then wrong or unethical. In my considered judgement, they were made illegal mainly for political purposes, not public safety purposes, and it is unconscionable that current legal statues in many jurisdictions prevent the access of these medicines to those in need.
In addition to the spiritual vows listed above, I am an active participant in the
Ethical Psychedelic International Community (
